Annual Ladies Luncheon

Thursday, April 18th  ||  12:00 – 2:00pm  ||  Hilton Burlington
Women and Men Invited

ABOUT THIS EVENT
From its humble beginning in 2010 as a networking opportunity solely for the women of the Roundtable, this event has grown to make important and broader introductions among Vermont’s leading female business and thought leaders and their proteges in the private, public and non-profit sectors, and to inspire commitments to be supportive role models for each other. Following the #MeToo #TimesUP and #LeaningIn era, this event seeks to continue to advance the conversation on women’s leadership issues, as well as address workplace topics affecting all, with all business leaders (men and women) being invited to the table. It is proudly hosted by the Women of the Roundtable.

THIS YEAR’S TOPIC: BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANNING
This year’s event seeks to improve awareness, understanding and appreciation for business continuity planning as a mechanism for business self-empowerment and minimizing risk by calling attention to universal key risk areas that require planning at some level, including: Employee Safety  *  Leadership  *  Facility Security  *  IT, Privacy and Cyber Security  *  Business Process Recovery  *  Reputation Management

JUSTIN FIMLAID, Managing Director
NuHarbor Security

In late 2013, Justin Fimlaid was the CISO (Chief Information Security Officer) of a large company and on his way to Australia where his wife was speaking at a conference. The trip provided uninterrupted time to reflect on his work. Justin was experiencing firsthand how fragmented the security market was. He could find partners to do security testing, but they didn’t do security engineering.  Companies could implement Splunk (a next-generation big data solution), but not with a security perspective. Feeling cynical and frustrated with the security industry, he realized he had two options: to complain or take action.

He chose action; Justin founded NuHarbor Security in 2014 with the goal to provide end-to-end security services to clients. Headquartered in Vermont, NuHarbor helps its clients design, implement, and sustain information security, compliance, and risk management programs. Justin’s innovation and thought leadership challenges traditional security methodologies to promote a new understanding of sustainable information security.

ARLENE SILVA, CBCP, Founder and Lead Consultant
Continuity Works LLC

Ms. Silva is the passion, energy, and driving force behind ContinuityWorks. She has been a Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) certified by Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII) for 15 years and has over 27 years of organizational and program development, consulting and business continuity management experience. Arlene’s mission is to serve people and businesses that want to help themselves.

In business continuity, she found the home she was seeking for her organizational development, program design, mentoring, and process improvement skills and experience. After 10+ years of leadership, mentoring, and consulting work with over 60 companies in a broad range of industries and types, from solopreneurs to Fortune 500 companies, Arlene came across an ad for a Director of Business Continuity Management position with a national insurance and financial management services company headquartered in Vermont.

The attack on the Twin Towers happened just 6 months after she completed training and applied for certification as a business continuity professional. With all her family still in New York City, it forever changed how she looked at her work and sense of purpose. For all businesses, 9/11 was a game changer; it exposed continuity management and planning as not an option but a responsibility that businesses have to their stakeholders, customers, vendors, and most importantly, to themselves.

Over the next 14 years, Arlene designed and implemented every component of the enterprise-wide BCM Program for a Fortune 1000 company, overseeing and training over 300 BC managers, planners, and support team members in the process. An arduous process that informed her stream-lined and time efficient approach to BCM Program design and implementation.

She decided that if she would start a business again, it would be one to help pave the way for others tasked with the same challenges.
