Timothy R. Volk - Chair

Mr. Volk is president and a partner at Kelliher Samets Volk, a marketing group that provides InsideOut Branding services to clients from offices in New York City, Boston and Burlington, Vt. He has provided marketing and communications counsel to small and large organizations, public and private, in financial services, health care, energy, higher education, state government, and professional services, in Vermont, New York and throughout the nation. Mr. Volk is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America.

Mr. Volk serves as chair of the board of directors of the Vermont Business Roundtable. He has also led the Roundtable’s Education Working Group, which has studied and put forth recommendations on such important issues as early care and education, school choice, and education standards and assessment.

Mr. Volk also serves on the board of directors of Eating Well Media Group, a media company that publishes the award-winning Eating Well Magazine, EatingWell.com, and food and nutrition-related books.

Active in the Vermont community for more than 20 years, Mr. Volk has also served on the boards of the University of Vermont, College of Education and Social Service, Child Care Fund of Vermont, Vermont Life Magazine, and the Vermont Folklife Center. He is a graduate of the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and lives in Charlotte, Vt. with his family.

Bill Stritzler, Vice-chair

Mr. Stritzler joined Smugglers’ Notch Resort in 1987 as Managing Director and purchased the company in 1996. He currently serves as Chairman of the Vermont Chapter of the Nature Conservancy and Vice Chair of the Vermont Business Roundtable. He also is a Board Member of Butternut Mountain Farm (a privately owned maple sugar and Vermont products business.) Mr. Stritzler is past Board Chair of Vermont Public Television, past Chairman of the Vermont Economic Progress Council, past President of the Lamoille Economic Development Corporation, past Board member of the School for Northern Studies and past Chairman of Copley Health Systems where he was a Board member for nine years.

Mr. Stritzler’s previous work history includes a period with Wells Fargo (1960 – 1974) where he was a Vice President of the Bank and President of the data processing subsidiary. He then joined AT&T (1974 – 1987) where he was a Corporate Vice President for new ventures and Vice President of Marketing for all US industries.

Mr. Stritzler is a graduate of Middlebury College. He lives in Cambridge with his wife, Viola, who is a Board Member of the Mary Bryan Art Gallery. They have two children.

Jim Daily, Secretary
President, Porter Medical Center, Inc.

Jim Daily is a graduate of Albright College, where he earned his undergraduate degrees in economics and biology, and Duke University, where he earned a Masters Degree in Health Administration.  He has been President of Porter Medical Center in Middlebury for nearly 25 years.

Jim is a member of the board of the Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems, the Vermont Program for Quality in Health Care, the Addison County Chamber of Commerce, the Addison County Economic Development Corporation and the Regional Policy Board of the American Hospital Association.

Jim lives in Weybridge with his wife, Pame, and their two daughters, Hillary and Tatum.  They also have two adult sons.

Douglas J. Wacek - Treasurer

Douglas J. Wacek currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Union Mutual of Vermont Companies. Mr. Wacek, who is a Certified Public Accountant, joined the Union Mutual in 1994 and in May 2001 was elected the Companies’ twelfth President & CEO. The Union Mutual of Vermont Companies are comprised of three property and casualty insurance companies writing home, auto and commercial insurance since 1874 throughout New England and upstate New York through its network of professional independent insurance agents.

Mr. Wacek’ has enjoyed a diversified, 30 year career in finance and management in a variety of roles and industries. Prior to joining the Union Mutual, he served as the State of Vermont’s Commissioner of Finance & Management under Governors Snelling and Dean as the State’s Chief Financial Officer from 1990 to 1994.  From 1986 to 1990, he was the Chief Financial Officer of a Vermont-based natural gas utility.   Previously, he was a practicing CPA with KPMG in New York and in his home state of Minnesota.

Mr. Wacek currently serves on the Boards of Central Vermont Public Service Corporation, the Vermont Business Roundtable, the Conference Board of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, the Vermont Domestic Property & Casualty Insurance Association, the Vermont Insurance Guaranty Fund and the New England Mutual Fire Insurance Association.  He resides in Burlington with his wife, Becky, and they have two grown sons. His primary outside interests include golf, tennis, hunting & fishing, duplicate bridge and classic cars.
